WELCOME TO GILBERT
from the Mayor
Mayor John D. Reeder III
Welcome to the Town of Gilbert. Gilbert is a rural town located in the Midlands of South Carolina in Lexington County, approximately 12 miles from the Town of Lexington and 25 miles from the city of Columbia. Highway 1, Highway 378, Interstates I-20 and I-26 are all in close proximity to the Town. Lake Murray, a man-made lake that stretches across three counties and serves as a place of recreation and a source of power for local utilities, is less than a thirty minute drive.
Gilbert is a welcoming town that is home to nearly 700 residents. Like many others, I believe you will find that the people, community values and community spirit make Gilbert a great place to live, rear and educate your children. Gilbert Primary, Gilbert Elementary, Gilbert Middle and Gilbert High School located in Gilbert are some of the best schools in our State.
Gilbert has two parks. One is the Gilbert Community Park on Rikard Circle. It has walking trails, picnic shelters, an amphitheater and children’s play equipment. The second park is Heritage Park on Hampton Street. It also has picnic shelters and playground equipment. In this park a museum is located in the old railroad depot. Also, a historical railroad caboose is on display.
Citizens can take advantage of the Lexington County Gilbert-Summit Library branch and the. Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission Gilbert-Summit Multi-purpose facility located in Gilbert. Located in the Town, there is a Lexington County sports complex with various fields for baseball, football, soccer, softball and other sports. Gilbert is home to several houses of worship, locally owned businesses and community activities.
The council and I hope you find this website helpful to you as you live and conduct business within the Town of Gilbert.
